Last year we brought you Critical Ass; this year dare to get bare with our bikini posse! It’s summer, so strut your stuff around Providence, with water wings, water balloons, water guns… bring the beach to the streets!

Bliss Place :: 6-8p :: Gano St. Park, follow signs to shore

Bliss Place, a mysterious blue Reality Company on the East Side of Providence (ESP), will be strategically metastisized into an Ultimate Party Island on the Seekonk River. Come along with Blooming Agents and be ferried on a Twisted Systeme, briefly across the Mall Admin’s Wide Horizons, to an Insular Space of Intense Possibilities. Travel to Conceptualize Mutual Fire and Basket Liberty Galore! Claims! Bliss Place will bear its own lib(er)ations.

Block Island Derive :: email Joan for departure + return information

Providence is great, for sure, but let’s take a field trip! Spend a day in the sunshine exploring beautiful Block Island with other ProvFluxers… maybe even into the overnight, with the more adventurous among us getting into some guerrilla-style beach camping? Don’t forget your sunscreen and bathing suit!

Now’s the time to show off your handmade, island-made fashions for all the ferry goers to see! Participants will walk the top deck in style, and awards will be given to the most creative outfits. PLEASE NOTE: this will take place on the ferry from B.I. to Pt. Judith!

Open to ProvFluxers coming in from out of town, or for folks that live here but want to try a weekend of urban camping. Email merediyth to reserve your indoor spot, or Joan if you’d like to stay outdoors.

Granny Cart Transit :: 12-4p :: location TBA

The GCT will be introduced as an option for urban transportation in an era of declining demand for fossil fuels. The transit vehicle itself is actually a collective, or collection, of “granny carts” that are fastened to each other to create one large moving structure. The accumulative structure that is created by the assembled carts becomes a transit car as it is pushed along on a regular route through an urban neighborhood.

Green Zone :: Firehouse 13

Sarah Zurier’s Green Zone is an organic vegetable, herb, and flower garden planted in the detritus of wartime consumption: used tires, shopping bags, shoes, and other repurposed containers. The plants are leafy (herbs, kale, beet greens, lettuce), vines (gourds, beans), or develop fruit underground (radishes, turnips); most flowers are edible. Green Zone grows all summer long.

Lovers vs. Heartbreakers Kickball Challenge :: 3-5p :: Amtrak Station Park

Kickball Jesus hosts this annual sporting event, pitting lovers against leavers on an open playing field. Now’s your chance to get even with that jerk who stomped all over your heart! Open to everyone, and BYOB.

MEWS-PARI :: Thayer St. 1p :: Empire St. 3p

The Meaningful Encounters with Strangers Preservation and Reenactment Initiative seeks to preserve and study stories of people’s meaningful encounters that they have had with strangers. This will be done in two ways: By performing re-enactments of stories from the MEWS-PARI archives; and by distributing free copies of Research Pamphlets from the archives. If you would like to add your won, you my do so at either re-enactment location, or call Tim at 617-501-5356.

Mid-Weekend Celebration :: 9p – extra late :: secret location TBA

Remember last year’s WoolyFlux? We’re gonna do it up even better this time around (or at least, we’re gonna try!)… Stay tuned for for the top secret location, or meet up for the Bikini Parade to walk out to the party! With games, debauchery, and a performance by the Tsunami Victim’s Orchestra.

Meet friends new and old as we gather round a campfire, grill, and projector for ProvFlux’s kickoff event! Featuring a documentary about the Salton Sea, “Death of Pringle” live performance by Justin Katko, keynote address, and drinks by Unkle Thirsty.

Outdoor Yoga :: 1-2p :: RI Statehouse Lawn

Breathe, stretch, and release all those tensions that might have built up in your body from all the running around over the weekend. Yoga instructor Sarah Daigle will restoring energy to psychogeographers tired and weary of drifting!

ProvFlux Lecture Series + Cookout :: 3-6p :: Firehouse 13

Come feast with us as we fill your minds with ideas and your bellies with food. This year’s Lecture Series features Sarah Zurier (3p), Michele Marcellot (3:40p), Morag Rose (4:20p), and others TBA. Come hungry for knowledge and bring food to share!

Progressive Runway Project Challenge :: all day/ night :: Block Island

We’re upping the anty for this year’s installment of a ProvFlux favorite! YOU will get to design and create your very own detritus-inspired garment, using items you find around the island. Strut your stuff in the Ferry Fashion Show for a chance to win a special prize!

Satellite Festivals (Be Longing) ::

In conjunction with ProvFlux, artist Jennifer Delos Reyes has organized a series of satellite mini-festivals/ events that will take place throughout North America to coincide with the festival. Artists in Portland, Toronto, Chicago, Regina, and beyond will create local projects dealing with mapping, distance, connections, and longing.

Tangier Diaries, 1987-1989 :: 8:30ish :: location TBA

An ambulatory performance, in which participants will read sections from Bowles’ diary. The performance will intersect with the Bikini Parade, and the readings will repeat/ overlap/interrupt as the parade progresses.

Manchester’s own Morag Rose hosts a lovely little gathering ’round the teapot to discuss civil liberties, contemporary psychogeography, and the debut of her “Cake Map Project.”
